Letter: School district needs infusion of new ideas
Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 | 10:10 a.m.
Zoning, class size, transportation, discipline and low test scores are but a few of the many topics of concern. One has to wonder if the school district personnel responsible for resolving issues such as these may need an infusion of new ideas from effective classroom teachers, teachers who have proven time and again their ability to be pro-active and divergent in their approaches to resolving critical issues. Great spirits who have inspired their students, families and co-workers to work hard to achieve their goals.
Our district has such great spirits sprinkled throughout its schools, bursting with great ideas for improvement. However, many of these people are never encouraged by our district to share their ideas beyond the classroom, or if they do, a response never occurs. This wonderful resource goes untapped and business goes on as usual. One can only wonder why.
Maybe now is the time for our school district to establish a policy that encourages the sharing of ideas from these effective classroom teachers who have been the cornerstone of inspiration in the school district.
This may not be the entire answer to all our school district's woes, but it's a big step in the right direction.
