RSCVA antsy about bookings

Because conventions and trade shows typically book several years ahead, directors are nervous about business activity for the new center after its expected completion in two years.

The agency is spending $105 million on the project and officials say more business is needed to help pay off the debt.

Agency sales representatives said 17 events are booked in 2002 through 2011. But they add that luring other conventions has been difficult because until last month, there was no timeline on the expansion project.

They also said concerns about air service to Reno and competition from other convention cities have also made it difficult to market the facility.
