Beginning this week, residential and business owners will be charged $95 if police answer three false burglar alarms at their properties within a year.
If there are six false calls in a year at the same location, police will stop responding until the problem is fixed.
Last year, Reno police responded to 11,311 calls. Of those, officials say 98 percent turned out to be false alarms from security systems.
