A former tenant of the Sandpiper Apartments sued its owner, Cook Inlet Region Inc. and a management company, Conam Management Corp., alleging she was assaulted and raped because of poor security at the apartment complex.
In a Clark County District Court suit, the Las Vegas woman, who said she moved into the Sandpiper on Oct. 9, 1998, alleged an unknown assailant had entered her apartment on Oct. 15, 1998, though a window that didn't have secondary locks and raped her at knife-point.
The suit said the defendants, which allegedly had notice of at least one attempted break-in to another apartment a day before the plaintiff was raped, allegedly provided secondary locks to the other tenants' apartments only after the plaintiff was raped.
The defendants could not be reached for comment on the allegations.
