The UNLV golf team was in 12th place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Monday in Birmingham, Ala., carding a 16-over-par 584 after the first two rounds.
Three Rebels were in the top 25 after the first 36 holes, led by sophomore Calvin Kupeyan (69-74-143). He was one over on the par-71 course and tied for 22nd place overall. One stroke behind Kupeyan were freshmen James Oh (72-72--144) and Travis Whisman (73-71--144), tied for 25th place on the leader board.
The Rebels were able to throw out a high score of 80 in each round. Junior Justin Lee (75-80-155), in his UNLV debut, stands in 59th place at 13-over. Sophomore Tyler Mays (80-78-158) follows in 60th overall. Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder holds a five-stroke lead heading into the final round and has his team atop the leader board at 15-under-par.
Despite the high score, only five strokes separate the Rebels from host Alabama in ninth place.
