Job study completed

Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 | 5:21 a.m.

Employees were advised of the results on Monday and will be given time to ask for a review of the findings before county commissioners decide whether to implement the recommendations, county spokesman Bob Harmon said.

The study, coordinated with an outside consulting firm, was initiated to determine if county salaries are comparable to similar positions in other state and local governments and the private sector.

Additionally, it sought to determine if pay levels for particular jobs adequately reflect the amount of responsibility or skills those jobs require.

A 12-member evaluation committee made up of employees from various Washoe County departments was formed to evaluate hundreds of positions.

About 20 percent of evaluated employees fell below proposed minimum salary ranges, Harmon said, while about 20 percent were above proposed maximum pay levels.

Employees have until Nov. 3 to ask for a review of the findings relative to their positions.

A final recommendation setting wage levels will be presented to county commissioners for adoption in late November or early December, Harmon said.
