Horse rider finds body

Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 | 11:03 a.m.

Metro Police responded to two suspected homicides and a body found in the desert over the weekend.

If all three of this weekend's incidents turn out to be homicides, it would bring the number for Metro's jurisdiction to 80, which is seven fewer than the number of homicides at the same time last year. Metro detectives investigated a total of 113 possible homicides in 1999.

The first investigation began about 11:30 a.m. Saturday when a horse rider came across a dead body in a desert area near Gomer and Industrial Roads.

The body was badly decomposed, but the remains are believed to be of a white man wearing boots and black shorts. A wallet and identification were found on the man, but the Clark County medical examiners office had not confirmed the identity of the victim this morning.

Just after 2 a.m. Sunday a 19-year-old man was shot and killed in the 100 block of Albert Avenue.

Witnesses told detectives that two men shot the victim and then ran southbound on Koval Lane.

A little over two hours later Sunday morning, homicide detectives were called to an alley behind 4124 Pennwood Ave., where another body was found.

Raul Montero, 26, of Las Vegas, was in the alley dead from an apparent stab wound.
