June 3; First NSU Rites Today
Story: Nevada Southern hands out diplomas to its first graduating class in ceremonies today in the campus gymnasium.
Twenty-nine graduates will receive their diplomas. The event will include an academic procession with about 100 marchers.
July 3: Civil Rights Bill Signed Into Law
Story: Congress passed the civil rights bill yesterday and President Johnson signed it into law of the land with a plea that all Americans join in this effort "to bring justice and hope to all of our people and to bring peace to our land."
The measure, born in the violence of the Negro protest movement against discrimination, completed its congressional journey around 2 p.m. EDT yesterday when the House passed it 289-126.
August 21: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah -- Beatles Hit Vegas
Story: An estimated throng of 11,000 frantic teenagers and elders jammed the Convention Center yesterday afternoon as the nation's favorites -- the Beatles -- made a public appearance in an hourlong concert.
The Beatles played such tunes as "She Loves You," "Let Me Tell You a Secret," "All My Loving" and a host of others that sparked their skyrocket to fame.
Nov. 4: It's Lyndon -- Big!
Story: President Johnson, who had appealed to Americans to "crush" Barry M. Goldwater, was swept back into the White House today in a landslide victory which shattered historic North-South election patterns.
Nov. 19: Massive Viet Attack Fizzles
Story: The largest helicopter operation in the history of the Vietnam War was launched yesterday against the Communists. At its height, a terrorist bomb exploded at the Saigon airport, wounding 18 Americans.
