Japanese businessman files suit against LV couple

A Japanese businessman who invested more than $400,000 in a failed Japanese restaurant and karaoke bar in Las Vegas has filed a breach-of-contract suit against a local couple in Clark County District Court.
Takaya Nagahara, who visited Las Vegas in 1997, was convinced to invest in a restaurant, karaoke nightclub and hostess bar catering to Japanese tourists and local customers by Yutaka and Toshie Miyauchi, the suit says.
The suit said the partners formed NM Investments Corp. in September 1997 to build the Kabocha Restaurant. Nagahara said after wiring more than $400,000 in investment capital and loans to the corporation from Japan, he received glowing reports on the success of the restaurant, which opened in January 1998.
But Nagahara said he was never repaid for his loans and he discovered the restaurant had been closed and the Miyauchis had disappeared in a subsequent visit.
The Miyauchis could not be reached for comment.
