Royal Festivals Inc. of Las Vegas is seeking an injunction to stop New York-New York hotel-casino from using Royal's trademark "San Gennaro" to promote an Italian food festival that is scheduled to be held today and Saturday at the casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
In a Clark County District Court lawsuit, Royal Festivals said it owns the trade names "San Gennaro Italian Feast," "San Gennaro Italian Food Festival" and "San Gennaro Feast and Feast of San Gennaro."
It alleged the hotel infringed its trademark when it advertised the food event under the name "Feast of San Genarro," spelled with one 'n' and two 'r's.
The lawsuit said the Feast of San Gennaro originates from Naples, Italy, in homage to the fourth century Christian martyr of the Roman Catholic Church, St. Januarius, the patron Saint of Naples.
New York-New York officials declined comment on the allegations.
