Nevada Dairy Commission plans hearing on alleged gouging
Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 | 11:20 a.m.
The Nevada Dairy Commission will conduct a public hearing on milk pricing and charges of price gouging in Las Vegas next week in conjunction with a congressional call for an investigation of the dairy industry.
The commission will meet Oct. 19 at 9:30 a.m., at the Bradley Building, 2501 E. Sahara Ave., in the second floor conference room.
Thirty-five members of Congress sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno to ask the Justice Department to investigate milk prices and why farmers are getting less for their products while consumer prices rise.
Milk prices have hovered around $3 a gallon in most Las Vegas supermarkets while it has been 50 cents a gallon less in Reno since producer prices fell earlier this year.
