Libraries to host events this weekend
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will host Storytelling Festival 2000 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Rainbow Library Amphitheater, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive.
Admission is free. Featured tellers are Mary Hamilton, Taifa and Pleasant DeSpain.
A sneak preview of the tellers is scheduled 7 p.m. Friday at the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave., with Hamilton; at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd., with Taifa; and at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave., with DeSpain. All events are free. Call 382-3493.
St. James Church hosts event Saturday
St. James the Apostle Catholic Church will present its first Multicultural Community Fun Walk beginning with a warm-up at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at West Middle School (off Lake Mead Boulevard, between Rancho Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard).
The noncompetitive walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. Walkers are to enter at Lake Mead and Pink Rose Street. Ethnic dress/costumes are encouraged.

Event scheduled at Jaycees Park
In memory of infants who have died, hundreds of parents, health care professionals and friends will participate in "Walk to Remember" 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Jaycees Park, area C, at the corner of St. Louis and Eastern avenues.
Anyone who has experienced the loss of an infant is invited to participate. Call Mia Rios or Lorrie Seaone at 731-8222.
Some exercise and fund-raising combined
The American Heart Association will present American Heart Walk starting 8 a.m. Saturday with registration at UNLV.
The walk is designed to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease and stroke. For more information, call 367-1366.
Hispanic Day parade
Boricua Association of Las Vegas is presenting the Dia De La Raza Hispanic Day parade beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday on Fourth Street in downtown Las Vegas. The general staging area will be at Coolidge Avenue west of Fourth Street. The parade will go northbound on Fourth Street to Ogden Avenue. For further information, call Patty Moyer at 229-2184.
Poet to read
The University Forum lecture series features poet Tony Hoagland 7:30 p.m. Friday at UNLV. Hoagland, an English professor at the University of Pittsburgh, will read from his books "Sweet Ruin" and "Donkey Gospel," as well as one of his new works. For more information, call 895-3401.
Carnival
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host its 11th annual Spectroscope Positive Choices Carnival noon-4 p.m. Saturday at Morrell Park, 500 Harris St. The free event is open to children 14 years old and under. For more information, call 565-2121.
