Talk to be given at state museum
Dr. Randy Winn of the Black Mountain Animal Hospital in Henderson will talk about common tortoise health conditions that need veterinary attention, their prevention and treatment.
The events will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Nevada State Museum in Lorenzi Park. Winn will use live tortoises to demonstrate various conditions.
Information about adoption and care of desert tortoises will be available. For more information, call 739-8043.
Class offered on breast examinations
The Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Center of Excellence at St. Rose Dominican Hospital is offering a free class, "So You Found a Lump ..." 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at 100 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite 330.
The class will teach women how to examine their breast for signs of cancer and learn about treatments that might be needed. Breast surgeon Dr. Josette Spotts of Total Breast Care will instruct the class.
Fall Festival
Christ the King Catholic Community Fall Festival will begin 7 p.m. Thursday with a silent auction, continue 7:30 p.m. Friday with Late-Nite Catechism, a one-woman show, and finish 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday with mini mall, game midway and a variety of food items. Feng shui
A feng shui workshop is being hosted 7-9 p.m. Thursday by the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. Cost is $15. per person. The instructor will discuss the principles of feng shui, the ancient Chinese art of interior design and object placement. For more information, call 435-3814.
Heart Walk
The American Heart Association is presenting "American Heart Walk" beginning 8 a.m. Saturday with registration at UNLV. The walk is designed to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease and stroke. For more information, call 367-1366.
Immunizations
Health District immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of four public health centers and 15 satellite clinics. The following clinics will be open this week, Oct. 11-17:
DISTRICT HEALTH CENTER: 625 Shadow Lane, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
EAST LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
NORTH LAS VEGAS FAMILY HEALTH CENTER: 2225 Civic Center Drive, Suite 240C, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
EOB NORTH LAS VEGAS WIC: 5A E. Tonopah Ave., 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday.
ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH: 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson, 9 a.m.-noon Thursday.
DESERT BREEZE CLINIC: 8275 Spring Mountain Road, noon-4 p.m. Friday.
FREMONT MEDICAL CLINIC: 4880 S. Wynn Road, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Immunizations free to anyone who walks in.
RAINBOW LIBRARY: 3150 N. Buffalo Drive, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 17.
CAMBRIDGE COMMUNITY OUTREACH CENTER CLINIC: 3827 S. Maryland Parkway, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 17.
