The measure naming the Vassar Street branch after former Rep. Barbara Vucanovich, R-Nev., was approved Friday and now awaits President Clinton's signature. It received earlier House approval.
Vucanovich, 79, became the first woman to represent Nevada in Congress when she won election in 1982 to the newly-created Second District House seat.
She held the seat for 14 years before retiring after 1996. She was succeeded by Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., who authored the bill.
The measure was supported by Nevada's entire congressional delegation.
"I'm very flattered," said Vucanovich, who lives only a couple of miles from the post office. "I'm glad you don't have to be dead to have a building named after you."
