Letter: Regents need to get act together

Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 | 2:43 a.m.

I'm curious, just what is it that the Board of Regents wants to keep secret in its selection of a new administrator for the Community College of Southern Nevada?

As regents, they are charged with the duty to guide the organization in the best manner for the taxpayers' benefit. Judging by the recent information about the affairs of the school, it is apparent that they have lost the confidence of the public (fund providers).

Their fight to keep the selection interviews private needs a satisfactory explanation. Lacking satisfactory answers it would appear that they want a private school run on public funds. Now one Harry Truman and we taxpayers would call that a lot of "hooey."

If this kind of performance continues they can expect the public to seek legal action to recover property and funds, past, present and future. Should the regents find that dissemination of information to the fund providers too much of a bother, I would again quote Truman when he said, "If you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen."
