The death of William Gatrell, 74, is under investigation but there is no suspicion of foul play, said Lt. Todd Renwick of the University of Nevada Police Department.
Gatrell lived in the neighborhood and was a frequent visitor to the campus, police said.
"A lot of people on campus were familiar with him," UNR spokesman Greg Bortolin said.
The body floated to the surface of Manzanita Lake and was discovered by a passerby about 10 a.m. Thursday.
Gatrell was reported to the Reno Police Department as missing last Saturday. The Washoe County Coroner's Office has scheduled an autopsy in Reno Friday.
