Letter: Bush has better plan for economy

He thinks only "someone obsessed with detail" may find Gore's "anecdotes" a little "odd." However, if Gov. George W. Bush were to completely save Social Security and Medicare by taking them off budget and in "lock boxes," and use 25 percent of projected surplus for a tax cut, and spend on new programs like a Democrat, then Bush will go over budget. Horrors! Horrors!
Gore's fibs are so minor and Bush's so big and terrible, according to Krugman.
Reality check. Krugman is comparing Gore's habit of lying to Bush's national budget. Yes, the national budget is more important. Krugman dissects and spins Bush's budget, but never mentions one word about Gore's proposed budget.
Why? Simple. Gore's budget does not save Social Security or Medicare, spends every cent of the projected surplus, and then spends an extra $1 trillion to throw our country back into deficit spending.
With Bush's plan, a little trimming on the new spending and tax cut, then Social Security and Medicare are secure, Americans get a nice tax cut, and the national budget stays in the black. With Gore's plan we get no meaningful tax cut, no saving of Social Security or Medicare, and $1 trillion of deficit spending that will explode like a bomb the next time the economy turns down.
We have the choice between the health of our nation or political loyalty. Krugman made his choice, what's yours?
