Eighth annual event at Rainbow Library
The eighth annual Las Vegas Folklife Festival will be noon-8 p.m. Saturday at the Rainbow Library and Aloha Shores Park, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive. Admission is free.
Storytelling, music and dance will take place on two stages, and a children's area will offer hands-on and take-home activities.
The festival will start at noon with a grand procession of nations led by County Commissioner Lance Malone and the Lohan School of Shaolin Lion Dancers.
The festival is sponsored by Clark County Parks and Recreation, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, the Nevada Arts Council and the Las Vegas Parks and Leisure Department.

Lecture scheduled on horse fitness
William E. Merfy, a farrier who has been taking care of hoof problems on horses in the Las Vegas Valley for the past several years, will lecture Saturday on the importance of the hoof.
The lecture, sponsored by Las Vegas Equestrian Events, is scheduled 5:30-7 p.m. in the Marbeya Business Park, 6655 W. Sahara Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. Donations of $2 per person would be appreciated.
Henderson hosting workshop on Friday
A Chinese cooking workshop is scheduled 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. in Henderson.
Enrollment is $15 per person with an additional $5 supply fee due at class. Participation is open to those 14 years of age or over.
The workshop is part of the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's Chinese cooking series, which is designed to introduce participants to the various cooking styles of the Far East.

Series explores cooking for the family
A workshop on vegetarian cuisine will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive in Henderson.
Enrollment is $30 per person, which includes all supplies. The workshop is part of the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's Vegetarian Cooking for the Family series, which explores gourmet vegetarian cuisine.

Jog or walk to help hospital program
St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation, in partnership with the city of Henderson, will hold its 10th annual Run for the Rose at 7:45 a.m. Saturday.
The events, which include a 5K run, 2-mile fun walk and a baby brigade, will be held at the Paseo Verde in Green Valley Ranch. Proceeds from this year's event will benefit Family to Family Connection, an outreach program of St. Rose Dominican Hospital. The race will benefit the home visitation portion of the program.

Construction problems
The construction defect law in Nevada will be the subject of a free seminar that will be held 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday in the County Commission Chambers at the County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
Depression screening
A free depression screening is being offered 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday at the Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Center of Excellence, 100 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite No. 330. For more information, call 914-7060.
Homeowners forum
The UNLV Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies is sponsoring a community forum at 6 p.m. Thursday at the West Charleston Library, main auditorium, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd., to discuss the needs to "reinvent" the modern homeowners association. Admission is free. For reservations, call 895-4492.

The 13th annual Electronic Media Awards will begin 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Grand Ballroom of Treasure Island. Call VidiAd at 736-3750.
