Timet denying basis for sex discrimination suit

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a federal complaint alleging sex discrimination and harassment against Henderson-based Timet and its parent company, Titanium Metals Corp.
The civil rights complaint was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.
The federal agency filed the lawsuit on behalf of Timet employee Sherrie Sullivan and "a class of similarly situated female employees and former employees" who allege "they were sexually harassed and subject to a hostile work environment because of their sex."
The complaint did not say what position Sullivan holds at Timet nor how many women were harassed.
Timet spokesman Loren Taylor said Friday the company is aware of an EEOC investigation but has not reviewed the lawsuit. However, the company does "not believe the circumstances provide any basis for such a lawsuit, and Timet intends vigorously to defend itself against such claims," Taylor said in a statement.
The lawsuit seeks a permanent injunction against the company from discriminating against female employees. It also asks a judge to award back pay to female employees who allege damages against the company, and punitive damages for "malicious and reckless" conduct by company officials.
