Reno officer hurt in conflict with trespasser

The officer, whose name wasn't released, was attacked by the suspect immediately after responding to a trespassing complaint at Ample Storage on South Virginia Street.

Police said the suspect knocked the officer to the ground and leaped on him. But the officer was able to gain control of the suspect with the help of two bystanders.

During the scuffle, the officer removed his gun and pointed it toward the suspect. The suspect grabbed the gun barrel, but the officer was able to keep it away from him.

Winfred Parton, 35, was booked into the Washoe County Jail on charges of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and trespassing.
