Letter: Veterans deserve better treatment than they get
Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 | 9:23 a.m.
The first available appointment was 10 weeks into the future. I was told that my VA identification card was out of date and that I should go upstairs to the second floor and get a new one. Went I arrived at the Identification Office, there were at least 12 others already in line. I was told by those waiting that it would probably take more than 2 hours before anyone would see me.
During World War II, I was in the service for over 4 1/2 years, of which 18 months were spent in combat as a member of the 1st Armored Division in Italy. I, along with countless veterans of service in World War II and the following wars, are now made to stand in line to receive the medical care our country promised us. What is wrong with the system?
