LV council members schedule sessions
Las Vegas City Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald and Councilman Lawrence Weekly have scheduled neighborhood meetings this month to discuss constituents' concerns.
Boggs McDonald will hold four meetings during the month all starting at 6:30 p.m. The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday at M.J. Christensen Elementary School, 9001 Mariner Cove Drive; Oct. 10 at Johnson Middle School, 7701 Ducharme Ave.; Oct. 17 at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Service Center, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive; and Oct. 24 at Piggott Elementary School, 9601 Red Hills Road.
Weekly's meetings are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Paul Culley Elementary School, 1200 N. Mallard St.; 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Ruth Fyfe Elementary School, 4101 W. Bonanza Road; and 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at Dula Center, 441 E. Bonanza Road.
Public input sought by city
Las Vegas officials are asking for public input in a Tuesday morning meeting to seek solutions for the growing numbers of homeless in the city.
Mayor Oscar Goodman and Councilman Lawrence Weekly, along with representatives of the Southern Nevada Homeless Coalition will meet in the council chambers, 400 Stewart Ave., at 9 a.m.
A recent study by researchers at UNLV reported that there are more than 6,700 homeless people in the Las Vegas area.
Senior Dimensions hosts awareness event
"Speak Out for Breast Cancer Awareness," a free event, is being held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Health Education and Wellness and Senior Dimensions Service Center, 900 S. Rancho Drive.

UNLV sets meeting to explain program
UNLV's Gerontology Certificate Program, part of the College of Extended Studies, will host an informational meeting at noon Friday at UNLV.
The meeting will explain the course work required for the certificate, and discuss career opportunities in the field of aging services.
The certificate may be earned by itself or in conjunction with a degree program at UNLV. The meeting if free, but space is limited. For more information and reservations, call 895-1079.
Internet class
An Internet class is being offered at 6 p.m. Thursday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive. Call Kathleen at 633-1070.
