Letter: Hate movements not Christian
Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000 | 9:20 a.m.
In Robert Wantroba's Nov. 21 letter to the editor, allegations are made that Christianity breeds hatred.
Wantroba's claim is based on the misguided actions of the Christian-led Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition and Hitler's Nazi Germany. In spite of the religious labels and self-righteous intentions of these movements, they were anything but Christian.
Who really believes these people were acting on God's behalf? No one, I hope. If one does believe it, they would probably also believe that by donning scrubs and a stethoscope one becomes a doctor.
For examples of true Christians, read about William Wilberforce, who helped abolish slave trading; Amy Carmichael, a missionary to India; and George Washington Carver, the botanist who advanced the use of the peanut.
