Editorial: City gets involved with taxi problems

We tip our hat to Las Vegas City Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald for devising a system whereby complaints received by the council offices about poor residential taxicab service will be forwarded to the Nevada Taxicab Authority.
The taxicab authority already fields complaints directly. But City Hall's involvement gives citizens another option where they can vent their steam about a problem that needs to be addressed by Southern Nevada's 13 cab companies.
We encourage City Hall to expand this complaint system to include other local agencies because citizens often do not know who has authority over a particular situation. By using the council offices as a hub for complaints, residents can avoid the hassles of contacting the wrong agency.
We would also like to see Clark County and the cities of Henderson, North Las Vegas and Boulder City establish similar complaint hubs. We believe the complaints will carry more weight if they are forwarded by local government to the appropriate agency.
