Letter: Suddenly Gore devoted to will of the people

It seems like only yesterday when his administration dashed to court to overturn Proposition 209, which California voters approved by a 54-46 percent margin, and Proposition 187, approved by voters 2-to-1.
Having found a controlling legal authority he can live with, we can expect him to advocate on behalf of other majoritarian positions, such as a return of prayer in public schools, increased enforcement of the death penalty and decreased funding for the National Endowment for the Arts.
Since a new Los Angeles Times poll found support for Roe v. Wade has declined to 43 percent from 56 percent, no doubt Gore will call for a return of the abortion question to the people to let them decide whether this practice should be allowed. Right? Wrong.
He is only pro-life when it comes to pregnant chads.
I suspect that Al Gore's esteem for the "will of the people" manifests itself only when it coincides with the "will of Al Gore."
