LAKE MEAD: Typical late fall fishing is being found with striped bass and channel catfish now being found in deep water. Even so, there have been reports of some stripers being caught near the surface following the Nevada Division of Wildlife's weekly trout plants.
This is the time of year when stripers lose interest in jigging spoons, so anglers are switching to live shad, anchovies and squid to catch the fish. Shad are being found in deep water at Las Vegas Wash.
One party of boaters reported to NDOW that they had good luck recently in the Virgin Bowl by casting Shad Rap lures. All of the fish were under two pounds.
This week's trout plants will take place Friday at Horsepower Cove, Hemenway Harbor, B-5 Cove and Government Wash.
LAKE MOHAVE: Large stripers continue to be caught by boaters in front of Cottonwood Cove following trout plants. This week's plant at Cottonwood took place on Tuesday.
Stripers weighing from one to three pounds are being taken by boaters below Cottonwood in the Six Mile area. The fish are being caught by trolling and drifting with anchovies.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is scheduled to stock rainbow trout Friday near the upper and lower campgrounds at Willow Beach.
WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Mild weather has caused much of the ice to melt on all of the reservoirs. Recent reports indicated ice covers approximately 40 percent of the lakes, down from 90 percent a week ago.
No anglers have been observed in the area in recent days.
ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: Ice covers approximately half of the lake. Anglers who were fishing at the lake over the weekend had very little success.
EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Ice covers all but a small amount of water near the boat dock. Fishing has been slow in open water and ice conditions are not safe for ice fishing.
