CineVegas shows its teeth

Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000 | 4:06 a.m.

The third annual CineVegas International Film Festival kicked off its six-day run Tuesday.

The festival plays host to national and international directors and actors and features a wide selection of motion pictures.

"Shadow of the Vampire" opened the festival at the Paris hotel-casino. The film, which stars John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe, is produced by Nicolas Cage and Jeff Levine.

The Lions Gate film dramatically depicts the mysterious events surrounding the making of the classic silent 1922 horror film "Nosferatu," with its full score performed by the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Berndt Heller, who flew in from Berlin.

The film is just one of at least 60 that will be screened, festival organizers said.

The festival also features a short film competition, a Nevada youth-in-film program and a Nevada filmmakers showcase.
