Gore’s challenge to vote sparks protests

Monday, Nov. 27, 2000 | 4:21 a.m.

Carrying signs that read, "Certify Bush, Sore Loser Gore Go Home" and "Give It Up Gore, This is America," the protesters lined Carson Street in front of the Capitol.

Kim Graham of Gardnerville, a George W. Bush supporter, waved an American flag.

Gore's actions amount to "a bloodless coup," he said. "We want to stand up and be counted. We just can't sit back and let it happen."

Jean Robinson of Carson City urged Gore to drop his lawsuits in Florida.

"This is a travesty," she said. "We had to stand up and say this is wrong. This is not what America's all about."

Protesters said they received mostly cheers from passersby and only a few jeers.

The protest was held in conjunction with similar demonstrations across the country.
