County supervisors undecided about casino

Monday, Nov. 27, 2000 | 10:52 a.m.

BELOIT, Wis. -- At least eight members of the Rock County Board of Supervisors still must be persuaded to support a proposed Indian casino if it is to pass, a local newspaper says.

A telephone poll conducted by the Beloit Daily News showed seven of the county's 29 supervisors in favor of building a casino, 12 opposed and 10 undecided. For the casino to pass, 15 supervisors must vote for it.

Many of the undecided representatives were waiting for more details as the St. Croix and Bad River Chippewa tribes, the city of Beloit and Rock County work out a financial agreement that will bring a reported $145 million over 10 years to local governments in lieu of property taxes.
