Letter: For Gore, morals aren’t an issue
Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000 | 2:41 a.m.
Where are Al Gore's disciples coming up with their ridiculous theories about the vice president being the "moral" and "legal" winner of the election? Last time I checked, the Constitution of the United States was still the final controlling legal authority of our country. According to the Constitution, Gore is not the president until he has a majority of the Electoral College votes, which he does not. So, no, he is not the winner legally.
How about morally? Is it moral to expect your political opponents to follow the law, then demand the law be ignored to favor your own candidate? The Florida secretary of state swore an oath to enforce Florida law. She faithfully followed election law, as written by the Florida Legislature and supported by judicial rulings. For honestly doing her job, she has had her personal and professional life slandered by Democrats. Is that moral?
Al Gore has a proven record of lying and violating federal law. Texas Gov. George W. Bush does not. President Clinton, Gore and their supporters constantly prove over and over again that they do not care an atom about legality or morality. Their propaganda is an insult to anybody more intelligent than a glass of water.
