Editorial: Disabled workers excluded from jobs
As reported by the Los Angeles Times, inflation-adjusted incomes for disabled employees dipped 4 percent from 1989 to 1998, while incomes for other workers rose 5 percent, according to a study by Cornell University of Ithaca, N.Y., and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Some segments of the disability community face up to 70 percent unemployment.

Letter: Under election plan, Nevadans' vote will count
Under the current winner-take-all system, candidates offer tailor-made messages to entice the voters of swing states with a significant number of electoral votes. Such states include Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and others, but not Nevada. Courting voters in only select states, candidates not only neglect the interests and values of Nevadans but the issues of concern to our entire nation.
Editorial: Access concerns remain
There have been some improvements since 12-year-old wheelchair user Stephen Quinn of Las Vegas encountered problems at a Rebels game in February. His mother, Vicki Quinn, and family friend Jeff Guinn, son of Gov. Kenny Guinn, led an effort to make the arena more accessible. But while arena officials have cooperated to a certain extent, there have also been lapses of common sense, and they have shown little urgency in responding to some access concerns.
Letter: For Gore, morals aren't an issue
How about morally? Is it moral to expect your political opponents to follow the law, then demand the law be ignored to favor your own candidate? The Florida secretary of state swore an oath to enforce Florida law. She faithfully followed election law, as written by the Florida Legislature and supported by judicial rulings. For honestly doing her job, she has had her personal and professional life slandered by Democrats. Is that moral?
Letter: Voters' right to choose limited
Abraham Lincoln said that this is a nation of the people, by the people and for the people. He did not say American states with 25, 54 or 4 votes, representing their Electoral College strength.
