Nevada casino firms finance Nebraska gambling opponents

OMAHA, Neb. -- Iowa casinos, not anti-gambling activists, bankrolled the group opposed to a proposal to allow Nebraska's Indian tribes to open casinos on reservation land, the Omaha World-Herald reported today.
Ameristar and Harveys, two casinos in Council Bluffs, Iowa, donated more than $40,000 of the $42,000 spent by Nebraskans Against Expanded Gambling to lobby against gambling measures in the last session of the state Legislature. Ameristar's parent company is based in Las Vegas, Harveys is headquartered in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
