CARSON CITY -- Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio, R-Reno, is reported in good condition at St. Mary's Hospital after heart bypass surgery Monday.
During a routine physical examination last week, Raggio's doctors recommended he undergo the preventative surgery as a precautionary step for a healthy cardio-vascular system.
Dr. Kosta Arger, the attending physician, said the surgery was successful and that Raggio can "look forward to a full and complete recovery." Arger said Raggio would have more energy than he had previously.
A typical recovery period for this surgery is about six to eight weeks.
"I see every reason for Sen. Raggio to be fully active by the beginning of the New Year and ready to fulfill his legislative duties with renewed enthusiasm," Arger said.
The legislative money committees, of which Raggio is co-chairman, begin hearings in mid-January and the Legislature opens the first week in February.
