NLV, Henderson duel in food drive

After Albertson's sent a tractor-trailer filled with 23,000 pounds of food donated by North Las Vegas residents Monday, the Salvation Army may not have room for the food donated by Henderson residents.
But that isn't stopping Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson from pushing his neighbors to give.
North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon challenged Gibson to see which city could generate more food for the nonprofit organizations.
Henderson may not be doing as well as its competitor, Montandon said.
"When I called Mayor Gibson's office this morning they asked for more time," he said.
Montandon felt pretty good about his constituents' contributions and the contest. "It has been too much fun," he said.
The winner of the contest won't be announced until after Wednesday because Henderson started late and will continue to collect food until then.
And Montandon said that there is still more food to be collected from North Las Vegas schools.
Henderson residents can drop off food at the mayor's office through Wednesday.
This round of donations from the two cities comes after local Boy Scouts collected 124 tons of food for the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities last week.
