One dead, four injured in accident on U.S. 395

Monday, Nov. 20, 2000 | 4:46 a.m.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said Linda Jeanne Smith, 39, of Reno, was killed early Sunday morning when her wrongway vehicle struck an oncoming vehicle in the southbound lanes in Golden Valley.

Smith was rushed to Washoe Medical Center, where she died about four hours after the 6:15 a.m. accident.

Troopers said alcohol was involved, but test results were pending the completion of an autopsy by the coroner's office.

The oncoming vehicle was driven by Amber Christine Davis, 27, of Reno, who suffered arm fractures.

Her 4-year-old son, Jacob, suffered a broken leg, while her 2-year-old son, Jason, was admitted for observation.

After the initial collision, Smith's car was struck head-on by another oncoming vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was released after treatment at the hospital.
