The cost of natural gas will go up for Southwest Gas Corp. customers on Dec. 1, but company executives expect natural gas rates will rise even higher soon.
The Nevada Public Utilities Commission voted 2-0 on Friday to authorize a $19.8 million, or 9.2 percent, statewide rate increase for Southwest Gas.
The increase represents the amount Southwest was paying for gas during the 12 months ending in March.
Rates for the typical customer in Southern Nevada this winter will increase $3.69 a month to $43.81 under the rate increase approved Friday, the utility said.
Other increases are expected to follow, because the cost of gas is continuing to spiral upward.
