SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
Four people are dead and three remain hospitalized in Las Vegas from a Saturday night head-on collision between a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle on U.S. 95 near the Nevada-California border.
The California Highway Patrol office at Needles said the accident occurred about 1 1/2 miles from the Nevada state line when the northbound pickup crossed a double yellow line and collided with the southbound Ford Explorer at about 8 p.m.
The two occupants of the sport utility vehicle, both from Simi Valley, Calif., died at the scene, as did one of the occupants of the pickup, a resident of Ogden, Utah, said Officer Bill Haney, a spokesman for the CHP. Their names and ages were not available pending notification of relatives, he said.
Four others, all from Ogden, were taken to University Medical Center, where one, a 13-year-old girl, died Sunday. A 40-year-old woman was in fair condition today and two children, a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, were upgraded today from serious to fair condition, a UMC spokesman said.
The accident remains under investigation, Haney said.
