Flowers attempting to revive lawsuit

Friday, Nov. 17, 2000 | 4:23 a.m.

President Clinton's former paramour Gennifer Flowers is appealing the August dismissal of her defamation lawsuit, which named first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and former presidential aides George Stephanopoulos and James Carville as defendants.

The lawsuit accuses the first lady of orchestrating three burglaries of Flowers' home, defaming her and invading her privacy. It also alleges that the presidential aides libeled and slandered Flowers in statements made on CNN and in Stephanopoulos' 1999 book.

U.S. District Judge Philip Pro dismissed the case after ruling that claims in Flowers' lawsuit had been filed too late. The lawsuit was filed for her by the conservative legal group Judicial Watch.

Flowers filed a notice of appeal Wednesday.

Flowers, who lives in Las Vegas, first garnered national attention when she claimed during the 1992 presidential campaign that she had a 12-year affair with Bill Clinton when he was governor of Arkansas.

He initially denied the tryst with Flowers, but acknowledged an affair later during his deposition in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case.
