A New York legal firm sued Las Vegas casino designer Mark Advent, alleging he failed to pay $850,186 in legal fees.
In a Clark County District Court lawsuit, Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, which said it was retained on Dec. 28, 1992, and had provided legal services through March 1998, alleged Advent agreed to pay the firm on a monthly basis plus a 1 percent monthly interest charge for late payments.
Advent and his company, Tri-M Holdings Inc., arein a legal battle with a Las Vegas architect, Domingo Cambeiro, alleging he maliciously sued Advent over the design of the New York-New York hotel-casino.
Advent disputed the law firm's allegations. "I've paid the firm close to $1.5 million since 1992. This is a dispute over excess unauthorized legal work and overcharges by Hughes. The firm is still representing me and Tri-M in pending lawsuits against Cambeiro."
