Sport: Basketball
Currently: The 6-4 Hernandez started both of the Bulldogs' recent exhibition games and is likely to open the regular season as a starting forward when Gonzaga visits Eastern Washington Friday. A transfer from Wyoming's Casper Community College, Hernandez earned third-team junior college All-America honors, averaging 23.3 points and six rebounds last year en route to the Region IX Player of the Year award.
Looking back: The Sun's State Player of the Year in 1998, Hernandez helped the Vikings to the 4A state title, averaging 24 points and 9.5 rebounds as a senior. A two-time All-Sunrise Division selection, he was named Sunrise Player of the Year by area coaches after his final season.
