DETROIT -- MotorCity Casino has laid off 154 employees to make changes in its gaming assortment.
The Detroit casino, which opened Dec. 14, laid off 81 full-time and 73 part-time employees Monday. The casino now has 2,800 employees. Its majority owner is Mandalay Resort Group of Las Vegas.
It was the second time the gaming complex made job cuts. MotorCity laid off 35 workers at the end of September.
Casino officials attributed the job cuts to a reduction in hours of operation for its three restaurants and two entertainment venues.
The casino also eliminated 32 of its table games and replaced them with slot machines, said Rhonda Cohen, vice president and general manager of MotorCity Casino.
MotorCity Casino now has 104 table games including blackjack, roulette and craps and more than 2,500 slot machines.
