WASHINGTON -- The Federal Reserve, after boosting interest rates for more than a year to keep the nation's economy on an even keel, probably will leave rates untouched in coming months barring dramatic downturns in financial markets, economists said.
The Federal Open Market Committee, comprising Fed board members and regional bank presidents, met privately today to discuss interest rate policy. An afternoon announcement was expected.
