StumbleTyco buying Lucent unit

Tyco International agreed to acquire Lucent Technologies' power-systems unit for $2.5 billion in cash in a move the manufacturing company hopes will allow it to leverage its strength in selling a wide range of items such as fiber-optics components, fire protection systems and disposable medical products. The power-systems division employs 4,700 people at plants in Mesquite, Texas, and Matamoros, Mexico.
