Teacher hit with charges of making bomb threats

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000 | 10:30 a.m.

A criminal complaint was filed this morning against a Silverado High School teacher charging her with two counts of making bomb threats and two counts of turning in false fire alarms.

According to the complaint, teacher Dylena Christine Pierce, 31, delivered written notes to staff members on Oct. 25 and Oct. 31 stating that a bomb had been placed at the high school and would soon explode.

The complaint also alleges Pierce pulled fire alarms on those days.

On Oct. 31 the school was evacuated, and bomb-sniffing dogs searched the school as students stood outside for more than an hour. School was eventually canceled that day.

Clark County School District officials were unavailable for comment this morning, but officials in the past have said that if she is allowed to return from sick leave she will be reassigned to another school.

Pierce has been a teacher in Clark County since August 1992.

The bomb threat charges are felonies punishable by one to six years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine. The fire alarm charges, which are misdemeanors, are punishable by up to one year in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.
