Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000 | 10:49 a.m.
About 7 inches of snow fell overnight at Donner Summit near Lake Tahoe, with higher amounts reported at some areas in the upper elevations.
Chains were mandatory in California early Tuesday over Interstate 80 from Truckee to Colfax, on U.S. 50 over Echo Summit and on California 88 over Carson Pass.
Chains or snow tires were also required on the Mount Rose Highway southwest of Reno, Geiger Grade leading to Virginia City, Kingsbury Grade in Douglas County and on Nevada 447 between Nixon and Gerlach.
The valleys of western Nevada between Reno and Minden were spared the brunt of the store.
The National Weather Service said a chance of snow showers will remain in the forecast for the next few days. Snow was also predicted for much of northern Nevada, including Winnemucca and Elko.
