Red Rock’s birthday means free admission

Red Rock National Conservation Area turns 10 Wednesday, and federal officials are celebrating by waiving entrance fees for the day.
There will be no charge Wednesday to visit the 196,000-acre area that is managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
Red Rock Canyon, located about nine miles west of Summerlin, was valued for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities long before Congress designated 83,100 acres of it a national conservation area in 1990. It was expanded in 1994 and again in 1998 to its current size.
Free admission to the popular loop road portion of the park will allow people to see some of the improvements made with money collected through entrance fees, officials said.
