Immunity offered in cheating

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000 | 11:29 a.m.

The Clark County District Attorney's Office Monday offered immunity from criminal prosecution to students, parents or teachers who disclose cases of testing cheating or irregularities.

But no one came forward to take advantage of the offer by Deputy District Attorney Ben Graham, who said his office did not anticipate any prosecution "at least as we now know it."

Graham said immunity is being offered in the spirit of finding the truth. The offer does not extend to those who perjured themeselves or adults who violated the law or profited from the possible sale of test answers.

Patricia Cunningham of the Alliance For Social Justice said students are ready to testify about cheating. But she said she did not bring them to the meeting because the issue of immunity had not be resolved.
