Trial of Stardust shooter set for January

A January trial date has been set for the man charged in a fatal shooting at the Stardust sports book in February.
District Judge Donald Mosley scheduled a Jan. 2 trial date for Anthony Cuccia, who is charged with murder with use of a deadly weapon in the slaying of Philip Greenspan, 56.
Witnesses said Cuccia approached Greenspan and shot him twice at close range. He then placed his gun on a counter and was arrested.
After his arrest, the 59-year-old Cuccia said he shot Greenspan because he thought the victim intended to kill him on orders from organized crime. Cuccia claims to be a former member of the Gambino crime family.
Authorities determined Greenspan and Cuccia once lived in the same borough of New York City, but found no evidence the two men knew each other.
