Editorial: Sister Georganne had a clear vision
Friday, Nov. 10, 2000 | 10:20 a.m.
Last week Sister Georganne Duggan, one of the health care pioneers in Southern Nevada, died in Santa Cruz, Calif. From 1965 to 1978, Sister Georganne was the administrator of St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson. This extraordinary woman successfully prepared the hospital to overcome the tough economic times that hospitals faced during the 1980s and '90s. At the same time, Sister Georganne, a registered nurse, understood that a hospital's mission was to provide the best care for patients.
Friends and associates of Sister Georganne this week noted her skills as a CEO, her ability to make anyone feel at ease and her wonderful sense of humor. She was indefatigable, always working to make sure that the hospital was responsive to the needs of the community. Today, as it has been since her tenure, St. Rose Dominican Hospital is an integral part of not only Henderson, but also of Southern Nevada. Sister Georganne, in large measure, was responsible for laying the groundwork for the hospital's success today. She will be missed.
