Parents can learn about those parties

Parents, educators and business owners can learn about rave parties during two classes will explain rave parties to parents, school administrators and business owners during classes at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Metro Police Department Training Academy, 861 N. Mojave Road, and at Clark High School, 4291 Pennwood Drive.

The classes will be held simultaneously.

Metro Police officers will discuss what raves are, what takes place at these events and the types of drugs are generally associated them.

Cashman to host weekend activities

The Great Craft Festival will be noon-6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at Cashman Center.

Admission is $6 for adults, seniors $5, ages 6-16 $2 and 5 and under free.

There will be 230 booths representing 300 independent craft workers from all over the United States.

Boulder City group schedules annual event

The Boulder Gem Club annual mini-show will be held 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Multi-Use Building, 1204 6th St., Boulder City.

Demonstrations are scheduled on making cabs for belt buckles and bolas, metal craft jewelry, faceting of gemstones and sawing of rocks and geodes.

Learn about how to conserve water

Horticulturist Linn Mills will speak at Breakfast in the Gardens 9:30 a.m. Monday at Desert Demonstration Gardens, 3701 Alta Drive.

Information also will be available on the Southern Nevada Water Authority's water-saving programs. Tours will be offered throughout the gardens, after the discussion.

Cans to be collected at UNLV football game

Donations of canned goods for the Salvation Army are being collected Saturday before the UNLV football game, which begins at noon at Sam Boyd Stadium.

The collection is part of a community project for a business management class, and tickets for prizes will be given with each donation. For more information, call 435-9824.

HELP providing food to families

HELP of Southern Nevada is taking applications from low-income families, seniors and single people to participate in its Thanksgiving food basket program.

The program provides families with a complete Thanksgiving dinner to take home and prepare.

Apply at HELP offices in Commercial Center, 953 E. Sahara Ave., Building 35, Suite 208, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Tuesday. Baskets will be distributed Nov. 21 and 22.
